Have your say on our Stronger Country Communities Grant applications

We will be applying to the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities grant scheme to help fund a number of important community projects. We have selected a number of projects for the scheme and want to hear what you think.

Our wishlist for 2017:

Clarkes Beach

Framed by the ocean and ancient dune landscape, Clarkes Beach foreshore is the ‘middle-point’ on the well-trodden path to Australia’s iconic Byron Bay Lighthouse. Clarkes Beach is a popular meeting place for locals participating in the unique beach-side offerings for active recreation.

This project activates this zone to support a program of community-led gatherings and will provide opportunities for stronger social connection, inclusion, creativity and well-being.

The transformation of the landscape includes street furniture and play equipment and an adjoining disability-friendly amenities block with three beachside showers, change rooms and baby facilities. A new kiosk to be run as a social enterprise will attract visitors and locals alike while providing important skills-based employment.

Bangalow Heritage House Enhancements

The project will extend the existing Queenslander-style house to increase verandah and museum exhibition space, relocate toilets to allow greater versatility in accessibility and upgrade kitchen space and storage. The proposed works seek to provide improved capacity and versatile spaces for the volunteer-run Bangalow Museum and Tea House. The new display area will house donations from the Bangalow Historical Society generously supplied by the local community.

Waterlily Playscape

Waterlily Playscape is focusing on the creation of a fun and interactive play space for all ages and abilities in Ocean Shores. The playscape project does not include the entirety of Waterlily Park.

The project includes shade sails for the existing playground, a new flying fox, an all abilities tree house, a new community walking and cycle pathway to enhance accessibility and works to formalise the car park.

Sandhills Childcare Centre

The project refurbishes Sandhills Childcare Centre, including, new carpet, paint and minor repair, replacement of timber floors and tiles. This work to be undertaken during the closure of the centre in the Christmas period. Aim to increase the capacity for the 0-2 year olds, with fit out and landscaping.
