A 3D overview of the concept plan for the Byron Bay Skatepark and Recreation Precinct

Thanks to everyone who provided feedback on the concept plans for the new skatepark and recreation precinct at Sandhills estate in Byron Bay.

The community survey received 232 responses.

There were a high number of responses from young people and some exciting opportunities have arisen for cultural interpretation and collaboration in site design.

There was also a big community push for shade, lighting, toilets and accessibility on the site.

The community feedback collected will now be used by CONVIC to progress the project through to final concept and detailed design and engineering, with plans to go back to the community in February before a tender goes out for construction of the project.

About the project

We are planning to build a new $2.6 million skatepark and recreation precinct at Sandhills at Byron Bay.

The skatepark is planned for the area near the existing Byron Youth Activities Centre (YAC), the library and the Sandhills Childcare Centre.

The project is being funded by the NSW Government's Road and Election Infrastructure Commitment Grant and Council.

An initial concept of the skatepark was done in 2018 and now we are at the stage of developing detailed plans.

CONVIC, regarded as one of the world's best skatepark designers, has been engaged to design the new Byron Bay skatepark.
