Council is preparing a Residential Strategy. It is a policy framework and action plan to guide residential development in our urban areas for at least the next 20 years.

The Strategy relates to future housing in Bangalow, Brunswick Heads, Byron Bay, Mullumbimby, New Brighton, Ocean Shores, South Golden Beach, Suffolk Park and Sunrise.

Following the public exhibition of the draft Residential Strategy in August to October 2019, submissions were received from landowners expressing an interest in having their land designated for residential land purposes in the Strategy.

Council considered the landowner submissions at the Council (Planning) meeting of 18 June 2020 and resolved to support the Residential Strategy being updated to include six (6) additional sites as investigation areas in the Strategy, and that further consultation take place with community and government agencies.

We invite your feedback on the inclusion of the additional lands which are:

  • Part of 20 Prince St Mullumbimby
  • 152 Stuart St and 124, 127, 130, 132, 134 Station St, Mullumbimby
  • Part of Lot PT32 DP 1169053 located east of Tuckeroo Avenue, Mullumbimby
  • 31 Ballina Road, Bangalow
