The North Byron Shire Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan provide an overview of the current and future flood risks in the following catchments:

The overarching objective of the Plan and Study is to:
lower the risk of flooding for the community
guide prioritising capital works projects
guide future planning in flood-affected parts of the Shire.
This information is important for residents and property owners in flood-prone areas of the Byron Shire, showing current and predicted flood levels which may be reflected in insurance premiums and property values. Importantly the information from the Study and Plan is designed to inform people and create awareness so we - Council and residents - can all be prepared for future rain events.

May 2018
Council announced the start of the North Byron Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan project.
Flood surveys for the Brunswick River, Marshall's Creek and Simpson's Creek catchments were conducted. These informed the development of the first draft of the Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan.

January 2020
Following 12 months of investigation, flood assessments and checking flood levels on all properties in the North Byron Catchment, the first draft of the North Byron Shire Floodplain Risk Management Study was put on exhibition for public comment.
