We are starting the development of a Coastal Management Program (CMP) for the southern coastline of the Byron Shire and the Belongil Creek estuary. The CMP will be a long-term strategy to guide Council and other stakeholders in the management of these popular but environmentally sensitive areas.
The study area for the CMP includes:
Cape Byron Headland Reserve
Tallow Beach
Tallow Creek estuary and catchment
Suffolk Park Beach
Broken Head Beach
Broken Head Nature Reserve
Kings Beach
Whites Beach
Brays Beach
Seven Mile Beach
Belongil Creek estuary and catchment.
Cumbebin Swamp Nature Reserve
The Belongil catchment, including Cumbebin Swamp is included in this CMP as many of the same issues in these areas are similar to the Tallow Creek catchment and estuary.
Have your say
We would like to know:
What people value about the beaches, estuaries and coastal areas?
What issues are important to people in relation to threats, conflicts and management of these coastal areas?
Have your say by completing the online survey (opens in Survey Monkey).
What happens next?
The information we receive from the survey will be collated and provided to our Coastal and Biodiversity team.
This will inform the next stage of the development of the CMP. There will be another opportunity to provide further input into the development of this important document later in 2021.
