Talking Future Tourism

Earlier this year (2019) we started our new 10 year tourism plan process to deliver our Sustainable Visitation Strategy 2020-2030. This Strategy will replace the Byron Shire Tourism Management Plan 2008 -2018(PDF, 962KB).

We received 1200 survey responses, and collated feedback from hundreds of people who attended visitor forums, kitchen table discussions and who attended industry meetings.

We also worked with 26 randomly selected residents and ratepayers on a community solutions panel to determine what we need to do to deliver sustainable tourism in the future.

We are now putting the finishing touches on the Draft Sustainable Visitation Strategy which will be presented to Council in February 2020.

Feedback on the Draft Vision

Using all the feedback we have received we’ve come up with a draft vision for our Byron Shire Sustainable Visitation Strategy 2020-2030.

Byron Shire supports a visitor economy that cares for and respects our residents, protects our natural environment, celebrates our cultural diversity and shares our social values.

Feedback on the Draft Vision closed on Thursday 19 December, 2019.

From all the information we have received during the engagement process for the development of our Sustainable Visitation Strategy we have come up with a draft vision.  We want to know if this reflects the community's vision for the future of tourism in the Byron Shire.
