Talking Future Tourism

We have started our new 10 year tourism plan process to deliver our Sustainable Visitation Strategy 2020-2030. This Strategy will replace the Byron Shire Tourism Management Plan 2008 -2018(PDF, 962KB).

We recently launched our Talking Future Tourism campaign which was kicked off with a kitchen table discussion. We wanted to have an informed and in-depth conversation with our community to find out more about how they'd like to see tourism managed in the Byron Shire over the next 10 years.

Community engagement for the kitchen table discussions has concluded and we have been overwhelmed with the positive response and interest from the community. Council has received more than 1200 responses to the survey which gives us a lot of helpful data to set the direction of our 10 year Sustainable Visitation Strategy and inform the Community Solutions Panel.

Everyone who contributed to the Talking Future Tourism consultation went into the draw for a day pass to Bluesfest, which was drawn on Monday 15 April and won by Michael Kern from Bangalow.

The data from the surveys has been analysed and was central to the deliberative process for the Community Solutions Panel. The Panel tackled the issue of what solutions and actions can be taken by Council to deliver sustainable tourism in the future. The Panel made recommendations, which are being incorporated into the Sustainable Visitation Strategy.
