About the project

Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT) guidelines require that all bus stops comply with accessibility standards. Council is currently undertaking an assessment of bus stops within the Shire to review both accessibility and general community feedback in relation to safety, usage, etc.

This project focuses on formal Council bus stops as well as the many informal stops used by school and community buses. Many of these stops are not accessible to people with a disability, are in poor condition and do not provide shelter from the weather. We asked you to provide feedback on these bus stops and locations that buses may use to turn around.

Survey Results

We received 78 responses and the key themes were (in no particular order):

  • school bus stops are a priority
  • safe pedestrian access to stops
  • maintenance concerns (e.g. graffiti, rubbish, overgrown vegetation)
  • signage
  • protection from weather for passengers
  • safety of road users
  • parking for school drop off / pick up
  • speed limits around bus zones
  • space for bus pullover and turning
  • changes to bus stop locations

Next steps

Council are currently reviewing responses, analysing stop priority and preparing a staged program. The program will be rolled out over the next 3 financial years (i.e. 21/22, 22/23, 23/24). This program is not fixed and will be reviewed as new information is received.
